    We need more details of what you are trying to do.

    Generally below 28?F you don't gain much from a heat pump.

      Turning it off saves the most electricity. In cooling mode, the colder you want it, the more it is going to cost. Use a Kill-A-Watt to measure it power consumption (you can program a cost per KW-Hr in the Kill-A-Watt so it can tell you what it is costing to run). Only you can decide when the cost of cooling is not worth the money cost. It will be cheaper to cool when the outside air is cooler. But a simple fan would cost even less to run if the air is comfortable enough.
